The President, Brendan Lyon delivered the following speech at the IPPA Awards 2015:

Welcome to the IPPA 2015 Photographer of the Year Awards.

Tonight we acknowledge the best of the best.

And as you can see from the exhibition around the room the standard of work produced by IPPA photographers is extraordinarily high.

The technical excellence, the wonderful and original creativity, the mastery of the camera and the control of light has all been perfectly blended to produce imagery of outstanding excellence and I congratulate all of you across all the various categories and I wish you all the best for the awards this evening.

I would like to thank Tom and Corin for all their hard work and input into tonight’s awards along with all the judges who gave their valuable time, not only for these awards but for the preliminary judging as well.  So, well done guys, thank you.

I would also like to thank Peter and Claire for their efforts in organising the speakers for today’s seminars along with the other council members; Kelvin, Neil, Michael, Dermot and John. Today’s conference has been a resounding success.

I also thank Dermot for taking the photographs this evening and Ronan Palliser for looking after our social media.

I would like to thank Trish for all her hard work thought the year and along with Therese for making today run smoothly.

I would like to thank our trade members for their continued support and a special mention to Conns Cameras & Canon Ireland for kindly sponsoring the Photographer of the Year Award.

As National Portrait Week is happening at the end of the month, I would encourage you to sign up if you haven’t already done so. This year all monies raised will go to LauraLynn Children’s Hospice. To date the IPPA has raised over €500,000 for Irish charities with the help of our volunteer photographers and sponsors.

I would like to say a particular thank you to Jonothan Sultan and Canon Ireland for their support and sponsorship over the years. It really does make a difference.

So, Jonothan, thank you again and I am looking forward to a very successful National Portrait Week this year.

I would also like to thank our panel of speakers today, all of whom made excellent presentations and contributed to a wholly successful conference. So… thank you everyone for that.

I would like to thank Geraldine for volunteering to be our MC again tonight, following on from her great performances over the years.

Before I hand over to Geraldine, I have to say that I strongly believe that the Association has turned a corner.

I believe that the new Web site alone will justify your membership fees.

Your Council is working hard in the background to make the Association a body that not only will you be proud to be members of but an association that every professional photographer in Ireland will want to be part of.

Let’s all work together to make it so.

 Thank you all very much.
