Associateship in Photography awarded (AIPPA)

If you have a problem with such images, please don’t look and don’t take offence. None is intended. You have been given reasonable warning! Leave now if you must.

AIPPA 2017 Panel for site

I was delighted to receive the Associateship Photographic Qualification award from the Irish Professional Photographers Association in February 2017. My panel consisted of twenty Portraits and the AIPPA awarded is my second Associateship, the other from the SWPP in the UK, also in Portraiture.

An Associateship Qualification is a higher level than a Licentiate Qualification and is achieved by submitting a panel of twenty images to a judging committee. Those judges determine whether the photographer’s submitted body of work is worthy of the award. The Licentiate Qualification is awarded to photographers who demonstrate a professional level of skill and competence, whereas the Associateship is awarded to those photographers who demonstrate a high standard of craftsmanship and creativity. Fellowships are rare, and are only awarded for exceptional and distinguished talent.

A good way to consider the Photographic Qualification system is to regard the Licentiate Qualification as a licence to operate a professional photographic business, with the Associateship and Fellowship a seal of approval for creativity and craftsmanship in a particular field.

The images that make up the panel are shown above in the order in which they are intended to be viewed.  The panel stands as a unit in itself, displaying symmetry and balance. The four central images are in colour, the rest in BW. Portraits that incline towards the right are positioned to the left and vice versa.

Three images have been switched from the submitted panel as those portraits were of children and I didn’t want to mix potentially NSFW portraits with classic children images on a public forum, despite having model releases for all the subjects in the panel. Those images are 7, 8 and 9 on the top panel.
